Delayed departure from Cashel
Rather short stage today. I left Cashel only around 1pm, because of a sightseeing tour of the castle (The rock of Cashel). The castle is built on a green hill. It is one of the most spectacular constructions of all Ireland. A sturdy enclosure surrounds a Gothic style cathedral dating from the 13th century, as well as its keep. Moreover, in Gaelic, the name Cashel means fortress.
The streets of Kilkenny
Today’s small trip gives me time to enjoy the landscape. The weather is a bit cloudy, but should be fine by the time I arrive in Kilkenny, expected around 3:30 pm. We cross the villages of Dualla, Ballinure, Ballinunty. At the 30th kilometer, we pass in the county of Kilkenny and the road goes down towards the city of the same name. I already smell from here the smell of malt or maybe it’s just my imagination exacerbated by a great desire to drink a very fresh foam.
The city of Kilkenny is of course internationally renowned for its beer, but it has other charming assets, starting with its castle. It was built in the 12th century. The city bears the pretty name of marble city.
This puts an end to this 11th stage, cheers!
